LIBRARY LITE: EXOSKELETAL
PART 1

The Vasconcelos Library's exoskeleton system has a unique shell and content relationship. Its design responds to the seismic context and the exponential effect of acceleration of mass due to the hanging of more than 2 million books from an exoskeleton frame. Through intensive model making, this is an  exploration of the large systemic jumps in scale of structural components and the resulting inefficiencies to load bearing and seismic capacity of a library that uses hanging book stacks as the design parti. The resulting eccentrically loaded exoskeleton frame is both structurally and visually monolithic and heavy.
